This island, which is 80 square miles in area, is home to more than 50 % of the country's populace (171,600). Nassau, the nation's capital, was founded in the late 17th century and quickly became the business hub of the archipelago due to its protected harbour.

This island, which includes the Cable Beach and Paradise Island resorts, is the economic generator of the country and also holder of the seat of Government. An elegant, quaint, little metropolis, the city of Nassau has numerous buildings reflecting colonial style architecture.
